Now anonymous, let's be honest - you would have had a far better fight if you'd disclosed your identity. Even so you chose the medium of a blog to execute an unsubstantiated attack. Next time you choose to walk on the warpath, I suggest you carry some weapons.
Reshma, I must laud you on maintaining dignity through the course of the battle inspite of several provocations to react otherwise. I share in part atleast your disappointment in having your blog space turn into a battleground.
Sonia, I understand your need to defend your friend. But some of your statements seem to draw parallels with what anon said. There seems to be no difference between anon and you. Understandably, you were engulfed in emotion but beyond a point, attack from your side seemed(objectively) to be counter-productive. (I'm being a hypocrite when I say this - my own style is known to be one of dire character-assassination. I suppose I'll leave it to you to make your choices.)
Radhii, I admire your efforts at defending your friend but perhaps you may want to think about whether you've done her more good or harm by prolonging a battle with someone who does not have courage enough to accept an identity. You've effectively sparred with a 'no one'. What good has that done you? What good has that done the blogauthor?
I myself have sparred on numerous occassions with persons who dared to take on my friends. When they lacked substance, I did not spare them. When they had substance, I chose to consider it. I remember a 'battle against bimboism' as I like to call it. I fought without need. It was more a fight to satisfy my craving than to satisfy what I felt was right. I did myself more harm because I lost focus of the bigger picture which I think is important in any confrontation.
I encourage confrontation. Its one of the ways by which the elements of society come closer. Rather than letting misunderstandings and wrong-doings stagnate in the minds of people, a confrontation brings to the open such misgivings. But here was a battle with a person who had no identity. Such persons are best ignored. Let them say what they want - educated people should have nothing to do with what they say because we don't know who is saying it.
Lastly, comment moderation - hey let's not be Communists alright. The internet is an arena for net neutrality. Let's support that neutrality. Let people say what they want. The onus is on you to make an individual conscious choice as to what is correct and what is not.
